Strange Spiritual Gifts

Hi sweethearts. You are so amazing. Thanks for reaching out to a blogger who has been away. I hope you are super cool, and if you aren't, I trust the current rainy weather to force you to be cool. :)

Defy the odds anyway, get on fire!

Fan Into Flames

One of the questions occasionally bothering me about spiritual gifts is whether the gifts mentioned in the letters to the Romans, Corinthians, and Ephesians are exclusive. As in, are those sixteen (or is it seventeen?) spiritual gifts the only ones the Holy Spirit gives?  Were those lists meant to be just examples, or are they the only possibilities?

Dear Diary, I'm In The Middle Of A War

July 2017
~War, Amaka, war~

Every day I’m in a battle.

The prize? My attention. My time. My priorities. And most valuable of all, my heart.

My enemy is cunning and crafty with many tried and true weapons at his disposal. His favourites — schedules, conflict, busyness, social media, men. Each of these he knows very well and plans skillfully.

How To Create Personal Time For Yourself When You Don't Have The Time

No matter how much you love what you do, keeping a balance between work and your physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing is IMPORTANT.

Create Personal Time

It had been a hurricane weekend. I skipped a few "personal" time and the fatigue had stormed my heart and left a trail of emotional debris. Even sleep didn't relieve the weakness. Was it the event, or just my body's edging into midlife that had made me so weary? That was when I started thinking about taking a break.

We are all busy.

Being busy is good but our lives doesn't have to be so rushed that we can't see where the time is running to.

Dear Diary, Can Me And Me Be Best Friends?

That moment you realize your friends are there to help you but you’re always going to be the one  who makes the hard decisions and deal with their consequences.

Being My Own Best Friend

I’ve spent years trying to win people’s approval and win their hearts. I’ve spent years trying to have as many best friends as I can whether by putting them on a pedestal, putting my life on hold and showing up for them whenever they needed me and trusting them blindly with all my darkest secrets and dreams.

5 Shocking Realities You Discover As You Journey Through Life

We all get drilled with certain lessons in life. Sometimes it takes repeated expressions to really get it into you, and other times one powerful experience drives the point home forever. Here are 5 shocking things I’ve discovered about life at this point in my life.

5 Shocking Realities

Realities are always shocking.

For some, in their reality, it is marriages being delayed. You had wanted to be married at certain age, but you're now older and wondering.

For some, in their reality, it is child birth being delayed. You had wanted to have a baby immediately after, but not yet.

For some, in their reality, it is finding a job being difficult. You know you're smart but no organization has seen that.

For some, it is getting into school taking a toll. So many things you can't explain.

We realize these "realities" mostly when we are alone and it can be disappointing than shocking.

Shocking reality literally shocks you to the bones and marrow. It shakes your view about life. It's a rude awakening.

Shocking reality, to me, is when I realize what I believed in few years ago as reality was just an assumption. Here are 5 of them:

What I Wore To Church: Cold Things

Happy Sunday! Enjoying the weekend? Here is an outfit that makes no sense, really. But I can't quite take my eyes off it. Could I actually . . . maybe . . . like it?

I love clothes. I think clothes are an amazing way to define our personalities and express ourselves. Hey, that's one of the reasons why I blog about What-I-Wore!

Being generally inspired by colours, prints and everything African when it comes to fashion, I can say that my sense of fashion is a mix and match, a falling rainbow, a cacophony of everything I like. And when it comes to style, I am not afraid to push myself.

And The Winner Of #AmakamediaGiveaway Is . . .

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the blogoversary giveaway and helped make it a success.  Put your hands together for yourselves. You are awesome! :)

Winner Of The #AmakamediaGiveaway

Surprisingly, not many of my sweethearts showed interest as I had expected. At first, I was disturbed. Then again, it dawned on me that a lot of you visit (read, peruse, survey etc) my blog not only to get something out of here, but also to support and show your genuine love for the blogger. Thank you.

I refuse to think it's because you are 'prouding' or because you feel the money is too small for you. Lol.

A Show Of Love For Roasted corn

This is a random post to appreciate roasted corn. There is nothing like the flavour of corn roasted on coals! It's on my top 3 favourite snacks. It is one thing that gives me plenty of chewing satisfaction. I love love love it!

Roasted Corn Is Bae

Sometimes the best food we find happen to be street food. While I would be careful to eat street food, I wouldn't be too careful with roasted corn. Honestly, that's where all my money currently goes into.

When There Is A Bully In Your Office

Bullying is not just about children. Adults are bullied too - in relationships/marriages, at work, and sadly, sometimes at church. We, as Christians, are called to shed the light on these dark areas.

Have you ever been ignored, left out, pushed aside, criticized, or talked down upon. . . day after day. . . after day? This repeated act is one of the worst types of bullying ever.

It's Career-Wednesday! Let's talk about office bully.

Dealing With Office Bully

I got into a little trouble when I wrote 'Dealing With Office Gossip'. A colleague read the article and took it personally. The person said it wasn't cool to write about it. The point of argument was people who work here would start to feel like I was referring to them. And I was like "but I didn't call names or paint anybody black".

Looking back now, it drew us closer because we now understand each other better. We laughed about it especially after another colleague read it and said "if anyone has a problem with this post, the person should go and hang themselves".

Is The Year Half Full Or Half Empty?

Happy New Half-Year sweethearts! July 3rd is the middle of the year. Half of the year is gone, half of the year is still to be. I hope you are fine and in good health.

My church family thought it was all about fashion when I wore a turtleneck piece yesterday. Lol. As I write this, I am battling with cold, cough and conjunctivitis. But

Half Full Or Half Empty

I've always heard about the glass half full, half empty phenomenon. I got intrigued when the idea popped up in my head while in a meeting with the youth executives in my local church. (Hi Johnero!)

I am a worrier by nature but encourager by spiritual gifts. So I know how it feels to be hopeful as well as uncertain.

6 Style Challenges You Should Try This Month And Next

It feels like only yesterday that we welcomed 2017, and now here we are in July. Half of the year is already gone!

But no matter how the first half had been, we can get by with a few things to change and anticipate. And embarking on a STYLE CHALLENGE is a great way to push yourself.

Challenge Your Style

We all know it's not possible to overhaul our entire wardrobe every month or every time we want to. We are left with no choice than to wear the clothes we already have. That's why bloggers (like yours truly) inspire our style and help us to constantly learn great ways to repeat our clothes and reinvent our looks without spending a dime.

I can count how many clothes I bought so far this year. I have saved money for myself from unnecessary fashion troubles through these challenges.

Prophetic Words From Hallelujah Festival

The ongoing one-hour Hallelujah Challenge which has so far recorded super-duper great testimonies ends in a grand celebration as Hallelujah Festival. It was "oh my God!!!". Never been any like it.

Hallelujah Festival

The Hallelujah Festival held at Glitz Event Centre located at Plot 2, Block 2 Okunde Blue Water Scheme, off Remi Oluwude Street, Lekki 2nd Roundabout (Marwa Bustop), Lekki, Lagos. It started at 10pm yesterday until about 2am this morning.

5 Life Lessons I Learnt From Travelling On My Birthday

I had gone through the events lined up for the weekend and realized that I was going to be travelling back to Lagos, Nigeria on my birthday. "I'm going to be on the road on my birthday. Can you imagine?" I told my friends. Then they gave me the "eeyah" soundtrack (an expression that shows sympathy).

I was totally apprehensive about June 26, 2017. But when the day came, I explored it with a free spirit. I discovered life.

Life Lessons From Travelling

Travelling on June 26 has opened my eyes to some things about life - things that are common or maybe undervalued, but have great significance: Life Is Like Travelling.

I love to explore.

I explore moments in my life - everything I see, feel, think, wear and know is turned inside-out.

One moment can teach you more than a classroom, job, or relationship ever will.

Dear Diary, This Is All I Want

I was planning to post about how my birthday went, but I feel prompted to share something else.

Dear Diary
~ All I Want ~

I am happy. I am at peace with God. I am at peace with myself.

For the first time in my life, I don't want a birthday cake, gift of shoes and those things I have considered fanciful.

Happy Birthday To Me And The Blog!!!

I've been wondering what to write for my birthday and third blogiversary. It's a double celebration!

šŸŽµNow singing 'You Covered Me' by Frank

My Birthday

It's my birthday! I am excited and I feel a little bit of anxiety too. The clock won’t stop ticking (yet), and there is so much to be done. I continue to believe the purpose of my life is bigger than me, and hope I am doing enough (preparation) to make all my grand dreams come true.

I frequently write and talk about LIVING WITH PASSION, and hope I am actually exploring every day full of life. There is so much living to be done. I want to suck life out of life that life has no life in itself anymore. It's that even possible? Lol. We'll see.

STYLE: The Vibes Of Black With Red

There is power in colours. The emotions tied into the colours of clothes we wear are what give the colours their power and meaning. The important question is now: am I giving off the right 'vibe?' Am I wearing the right colours that suit me and my personality?

Black With Red Vibes

I find the field of Colour Science quite fascinating, especially since it's not a huge one (researching my post on 'how colours affect your mood' was way playful than I'd thought it would be). After connecting with my clothes to find out how they affect my mood, I knew I had a very exciting ingredient to add to my Style Statement.

What Maturity Means

Yay! My birthday is in 4 days. I've been asked how old I am in the past couple of days, and when I revealed, some expressed how they thought I was older while others exclaimed they thought I was younger.

I asked each party WHY they thought so. Most of them considered when I graduated from the university and others considered ALL the crazy things I do.

Well, we may think that maturity is about age and physical development, but that's wrong. Age is only a number! Found this article on a Christian WhatsApp group and thought to share.

20 Definitions Of Maturity

1. Maturity is when you accept other people the way they are and their level of maturity.

2. Maturity is when you understand that your ideas are not always the best.

What To Do When You Meet A Celebrity

Can you be friends with celebrities? Yes. It's hard, but it is not impossible.

I’ve stumbled and bumbled when I meet celebrities, especially early on the red carpet moments (more on that later). But my mistakes have taught me a few things. So, here a few tips I’ve picked up along the way . . .

When You Meet A Celebrity

There are always many chances at some point in life when you’ll meet someone who is quite famous. It could be an actor, a musician, or a best-seller author. Or perhaps, a VIP of some sort, like a well-known blogger, entrepreneur or the CEO of a company.

When the opportunity presents itself, you have to make a choice: do you want to be seen as just another fan or would you like to take a shot at developing a professional or even personal relationship?

DIARY: Currently Singing This Hymn

If you are in a contemporary worship church, then you probably sing it. If you listen to Christian radio or keep up with gospel music industry, then you probably know it. And you probably love it. I do!

Jesus Keep Me In Your Love

Jesus keep me in Your love
There to dwell forever.
Fill me with Your own Spirit.
There to serve You ever.

Passionate People Suffer For What They Enjoy

Let's talk about passion a little bit more today. I found a definition that had me gasping for air. *mouth still opened*

Suffering With Passion

Life is challenging, unpredictable, and busy. Life throws us lemons (as a speaker said) and curve balls, we get confused, we squeeze the juice out of the lemonade and we swing hoping to find a balance. But how do we keep living with positivity, inspiration and love?

The answer is one word:

12 Reasons Why You Should Dress Up (Or Be A Fashionista)

About two weeks ago, someone made a comment that got me thinking deeply about the things we wear and WHY we wear them. The person was indirectly asking "why are YOU looking so gorgeous?" as if wearing something cute that makes you feel good is a "weird" thing to do!

Being a blogger (lol), I was inspired to make a post to help you in those awkward moments where you're being asked why you wear what you wear too.

Why Dress Up

Quite a number of people assume you need to follow the latest trends to be fashionable, but nah. If you mix a plain white t-shirt with denim one day and a black pencil skirt another day, you've got two outfits right there!

All it takes is for you to be creative and intentional.

Who Is Ready To Win N10,000 With A Cheery On Top?

Am I excited or what! Can you believe that this little blog officially turns three on the 26th of June?! Oh my, I know I can’t.

1,2,3 years . . . Wow!

As a thank you, I am putting together a little giveaway. I wish I had done this earlier but logistics. Phew. Anyway, it's better late than never, right?

I reached out to few brands for sponsorship so I could give something mega to each and every one of you. But, none has pulled through yet. I hope that two of you will really love to receive these prizes.

Blogging this year has been more than challenging; BUT it has totally been worth it. Through it all, I have learnt a lot about myself and my journey, about working with brands and just how life can be funny at times.

Dear Diary, It Is For His Name's Sake

I woke up to the knowledge that God will NOT let me fail on this journey just for the sake of His name.

For Your Name's Sake

When I go down the path of sin and lose my bearing, You, my God restore my soul. You guide me in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. I am created, saved and sanctified for Your name's sake.

Because You are my Shepherd,

I commit all that I ever need to You  .

You are the Provider of the platforms for me to perform,

When You Love God But Lust After The Opposite Sex

Are you shocked that I struggle? Please, don't be. For months I fought a losing battle against lust. It wouldn’t be profitable for me to go into detail describing my defeats. Just so you know I’ve been there.

Overwhelmed With Lust

I am one of those women who have found myself struggling with lust. I am not addicted to pornography or masturbation, but I am distracted to lust after handsome (can I say "hot"?), tall and smart men.

STYLE: Release Through Dance

Happy Sunday! Went to church? Did you dance? I danced!

Repressed emotions get stored up in our body and can cause fatigue, anxiety and illnesses. Dance and see how it all goes away.

Dance Expression

I am highly expressive with my emotions. I necessarily don't have to spell out my feelings because my works of art is my voice.

I write. I voice. I sew. I model.

The One-Hour Hallelujah Challenge On Instagram

While you are sleeping (and probably snoring), the cool ones are praising and having fun like children.

It's a melodious June. Don't let anyone steal your peace and joy. Join in the fun!

It would be counted for me as selfishness if I never told you to join the hallelujah challenge on Instagram with @nathanielblow live every midnight (00:00 AM Nigeria Time). It's one of the best things to happen this month.

Can My Colleagues And I Be Friends?

Hiya! I like how today's topic merges Love-Wednesday with Career-Wednesday. Nice!

It might be tempting to hang out at the canteen/kitchen half the time and indulge in the latest gists or have a friendly sport fight. But these easy friendships with coworkers must be handled with care.

Should Colleagues Become Friends?

I make friends easily.

I am so good at connecting with people, but the only problem is I am terrible when it comes to staying in touch. The friends who are closest to me right now are the ones who made the effort. And I don't take credit for that.

Dear Diary, Here's What I Am Feeling Like

My birthday is in 20 days. I’ve learned that it takes a great deal of courage to lay down everything you know and everything you feel.

June usually come with excitement. But for the past three years, the excitement wraps itself up with anxiety.

STYLE: This Combination Is Something Else!

If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of not being able to wear an amazing skirt because none of your tops go with it, you'll understand my excitement about this outfit.

The Perfect Combination

When it comes to fashion, every one deserves to tell their own unique story with the clothes they wear. Wearing the same outfit as every other person just doesn’t cut it for those who have a story to tell—who have discovered their style statement

I have a story to tell. In fact, three stories!

Papa Ajasco's Big Stomach Is Not Fake

Who remembers Papa Ajasco?! Many of us grew up watching him. I met the real Papa Ajasco on Monday. He still looks the same!

Papa Ajasco

Papa Ajasco as a personality is a brand. I tell you. His role in 'The Ajasco Family' is so prominent. He left the show for a while, but he’s back on the show now.

Nobody can be like Papa Ajasco. He is an icon.

Just Play On, Baby!

The sweetest month is here!!! Happy June!!! It's my birthday month!!! I'm happy and sad!!! Lol.

I accidentally sat on a piano yesterday and found this inspiration.

Like The Piano

May 31, 2017

Life is like a piano. The white keys represent happiness, the black keys show sadness. But as you go through life’s journey, remember that the black keys make music too . . . I totally agree with Ehssan.

RELATIONSHIP: When He Chooses Another Woman Over You

I’ve witnessed many situations where the “main chick” becomes the “side chick” and have experienced a half of one.

When He Chooses Her Over You

I am not psychic and cannot look into your individual situation. But what I can do is try to shed some light for you so that you can understand.

It won't be too long before it dawns on you that some men don't know what they want or need. And you can’t know what a man needs or wants when he has you yet chooses someone else over you.

Dear Diary, I'm The Biggest Hypocrite Ever

Few mornings ago as I sat down and reflected on my struggles with sin, I wrote this on my private diary.

Say What You Do

I'm probably the biggest hypocrite who blogs. I act very religious and talk about loving God with all my heart, but I end up doing things that I'd be embarrassed to even admit.

I know I shouldn't do it, but I did.

I am now a mystery to myself. I don't even understand how I think. I am baffled by my own experience. I am driven by motives and urges I don't even understand, let alone control.

5 Tips For Staying Stylish When It's Raining In Nigeria

First of all, are we in the rainy season? Me I'm not understanding oh. One minute it’s all bright and shiny, the next minute it’s raining cats and dogs.

Last Thursday, the heavens opened and the rain poured for hours on end. It had me thinking about what to wear the next day. Hence this post . .

Staying Stylish On Rainy Days

Source: Getty Images

Dressing for rainy days takes a little more thought because you cannot just come, pick and go. Nope. You have to consider the weather and the roads, or else you might find yourself drenched, dirty and damaged.(Any better word starting with 'D'? I wanted an alliteration moment there. Lol).

Every time the cloud gets dark and the cold wind blows, it seems like the perfect time to stay indoors. The best part is settling down with a warm blanket (or wrapper), tucked in bed with a cup of tea and a good movie or a good book. You get!

Time To Unleash The "Child" In You

Sometimes we wish we could be children again. But the good news is: We can. You may be "grown up" now but your inner child is still alive.

Can you think of anything you have done in the past that you would describe as fun?

What's Fun To You?

There is an unspoken expectation that comes with being a “grown up”, everything child-like dissipates with that growth forever. But what we may have not realized is that the coping mechanisms we need as adults to get around any stressful season are inherently learned when we were children.

These 2 Secrets Will Make Your Boss Love You

I remember calling my former boss to wish him a Happy New Month. He didn't start out with the usual "hello. . . " The first thing he said when he picked up the phone was "The one and only Amaka" My heart melted. šŸ˜Š. The mere fact that he still has my number made me blush.

You all agreed we could run Love-Wednesday and Career-Wednesday sulmultenously. Yeah? It's Career-Wednesday!

How To Make Your Boss Love You

I am the boss of my own, and I have a boss. If you haven't grown enough to work for only yourself, then you also have a boss to report to. Provided they're not the devil incarnate, we can have a good relationship with our bosses.

Many times, we think the key to a making our bosses love us is by showing up early, looking busy or being a pushover. In some cases, that may work, but the best way to get your bosses love (and not go against your personal values) is to:

Dear Diary, Would Jesus Take Selfies?

It's no new gist that I enjoy being in front of the camera. My pictures are everywhere on this blog. Got to ask myself one day "Why do I love the camera this much?". Shocked to find out God had an issue with that.

Camera Obsession

Sometimes I wonder what Jesus would have done if he lived in this age of digital cameras and camera phones. Would he have posted pictures of himself hanging out by the water's edge, having a few glasses of wine at the wedding at Cana, or standing next to that tree with the caption "Last weekend was lit!"?

When You Worry About Living Out God's Plan

Wouldn’t it be awesome to wake up every (Monday) morning and be assured you’re on the right path towards your (God-given) goals? To know with certainty that you’re headed in the right direction?

Too many times I’ve second-guessed a decision I was confident about.

Lord, What Do You Want Me To Do?

On many occasions, I’ve wondered if I was disrupting God’s plan for me. I so don't want to miss it. Ah, I don't.

I know there are so many different things that happen in this life, from the trivial to the most important, where so many different options of action or inaction are open and they all have their pros and cons.

I also know we can never truly know what's going on in God's mind, but can He not want us to have at least some idea of what He wants us to do so that we can do it?

What I Wore To Church Today

Happy Sunday, online people! This is the first time I'd be using that phrase here. How are you doing, online people? Now, this is the second time. Lol. People, I am still in church at 4PM!

My local church (in Lagos, Nigeria) believes that Sunday is a day to be dedicated to God, by spending the entire day in church. Phew.

What I Wore To Church

ankara shift dress

Service was awesome today. After service, another service started. After that, another one. It's how we roll in my local church. And I'm not complaining. No. šŸ˜¢

While the last "service" was going on, I decided to be creative with time. I went to the stairs, took selfies and . . . then this.

Friendship Break Up: Give Yourself Time To Heal

A friend suggested I go out to see more movies so I can forget this friend I was grieving over. I agreed. Only to start crying at the scene where a guy was telling a girl he's got her back after saving her from hoodlums. Lol.

Sometimes, these things don't help as much. But we should never stop trying to find healing.

Give Yourself Time To Heal

When you lose a friend, there are no songs, movies or books to help you. You look around and realize your friend is no longer there. Your entire world feels like it’s crashing down around you, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get through it. I know how it feels, I have been there, and did I survive?

DIARY: Yellow! Water Salt Of Brown Weekend!

When someone asks you "how was your weekend?" and you want to describe your weekend in one sentence without leaving any part of the story behind, what would you say? I got an idea; use colours.

Your response will help you discern those who really care whether your weekend went well and those who just ask for the sake of it. Those who care would ask for more details and those who don't care would either smile or shrug.

For those who care, here is the loong gist of last weekend . . .

Yellow-Water-Salt-Brown Weekend

Yellow! Water Salt of Brown Weekend! appears to me as the best caption for this post. There is so much to tell you, but where/how do I start from? From the moment I left the house on Saturday to the moment I got home, a million events occurred. I might have to break this experience into parts.

Let's start like this:

Why Do You Study The Bible? And Must You?

I'm in that season where God questions my motives and intentions. It's not a very interesting one. I feel every form of art I hold dear is gradually slipping away from me. The "why" questions are breaking me.

Why Study The Bible

When I was studying the book of Joshua, I had no intention to share it with anyone. I innocently wanted to personally understand the concept of discovering the promised land, entering into the promised land, and taking over the promised land.

As I began the study, I was totally dazed at the things I was blessed enough to understand. I was thrilled by the new insight. I became excited and thought I couldn't keep them to myself.

Come To Terms With The Real You

Hi. This is a style post with a little inspirational twist. Does the length of the skirt matter?

The Real You

You can fake it. You can pretend for as long as you want.

You can fake holiness. You can fake piety. You can fake morality. You can fake righteousness. You can fake sister Mary. You can even fake happening babe. Everything  is fakeable.

Don't Forget The Word After A Successful Outcome

The end of a thing is more important than the beginning. Joshua 8 ended beautifully and inspiringly. Still on the PYH Series . . .

Remember The Word Even After Success

Joshua (in chapter 1) had been commanded from the start to meditate on God's word. In Joshua 8, his army had defeated the city of Ai, just as God had predicted. Then came the decision point. Would Joshua celebrate this victory or give glory to God? Here's what we are told,
Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law-the blessings and the curses--just as it is written in the Book of the Law. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read to the whole assembly of Israel, including the women and children, and the aliens who lived among them. - Joshua 8:34-35

STYLE: Lol. It Doesn't Matter Whether It's Vintage Or "Okrika"

I would definitely shop okrika (as we call it) even if I make all the money in the world. Lol. You just never know what you might find in a thrift shop. I like the uniqueness you get with vintage clothing.

Vintage For Work

So I found another lace skirt. Yay.

I don't know when my love for fashion started exactly. For long, my priority when it came to fashion — and existence in general — was to be unique.
