5 Tips For Staying Stylish When It's Raining In Nigeria

First of all, are we in the rainy season? Me I'm not understanding oh. One minute it’s all bright and shiny, the next minute it’s raining cats and dogs.

Last Thursday, the heavens opened and the rain poured for hours on end. It had me thinking about what to wear the next day. Hence this post . .

Staying Stylish On Rainy Days

Dressing for rainy days takes a little more thought because you cannot just come, pick and go. Nope. You have to consider the weather and the roads, or else you might find yourself drenched, dirty and damaged.(Any better word starting with 'D'? I wanted an alliteration moment there. Lol).

Every time the cloud gets dark and the cold wind blows, it seems like the perfect time to stay indoors. The best part is settling down with a warm blanket (or wrapper), tucked in bed with a cup of tea and a good movie or a good book. You get!

Time To Unleash The "Child" In You

Sometimes we wish we could be children again. But the good news is: We can. You may be "grown up" now but your inner child is still alive.

Can you think of anything you have done in the past that you would describe as fun?

What's Fun To You?

There is an unspoken expectation that comes with being a “grown up”, everything child-like dissipates with that growth forever. But what we may have not realized is that the coping mechanisms we need as adults to get around any stressful season are inherently learned when we were children.

These 2 Secrets Will Make Your Boss Love You

I remember calling my former boss to wish him a Happy New Month. He didn't start out with the usual "hello. . . " The first thing he said when he picked up the phone was "The one and only Amaka" My heart melted. 😊. The mere fact that he still has my number made me blush.

You all agreed we could run Love-Wednesday and Career-Wednesday sulmultenously. Yeah? It's Career-Wednesday!

How To Make Your Boss Love You

I am the boss of my own, and I have a boss. If you haven't grown enough to work for only yourself, then you also have a boss to report to. Provided they're not the devil incarnate, we can have a good relationship with our bosses.

Many times, we think the key to a making our bosses love us is by showing up early, looking busy or being a pushover. In some cases, that may work, but the best way to get your bosses love (and not go against your personal values) is to:

Dear Diary, Would Jesus Take Selfies?

It's no new gist that I enjoy being in front of the camera. My pictures are everywhere on this blog. Got to ask myself one day "Why do I love the camera this much?". Shocked to find out God had an issue with that.

Camera Obsession

Sometimes I wonder what Jesus would have done if he lived in this age of digital cameras and camera phones. Would he have posted pictures of himself hanging out by the water's edge, having a few glasses of wine at the wedding at Cana, or standing next to that tree with the caption "Last weekend was lit!"?

When You Worry About Living Out God's Plan

Wouldn’t it be awesome to wake up every (Monday) morning and be assured you’re on the right path towards your (God-given) goals? To know with certainty that you’re headed in the right direction?

Too many times I’ve second-guessed a decision I was confident about.

Lord, What Do You Want Me To Do?

On many occasions, I’ve wondered if I was disrupting God’s plan for me. I so don't want to miss it. Ah, I don't.

I know there are so many different things that happen in this life, from the trivial to the most important, where so many different options of action or inaction are open and they all have their pros and cons.

I also know we can never truly know what's going on in God's mind, but can He not want us to have at least some idea of what He wants us to do so that we can do it?

What I Wore To Church Today

Happy Sunday, online people! This is the first time I'd be using that phrase here. How are you doing, online people? Now, this is the second time. Lol. People, I am still in church at 4PM!

My local church (in Lagos, Nigeria) believes that Sunday is a day to be dedicated to God, by spending the entire day in church. Phew.

What I Wore To Church

ankara shift dress

Service was awesome today. After service, another service started. After that, another one. It's how we roll in my local church. And I'm not complaining. No. 😢

While the last "service" was going on, I decided to be creative with time. I went to the stairs, took selfies and . . . then this.

Friendship Break Up: Give Yourself Time To Heal

A friend suggested I go out to see more movies so I can forget this friend I was grieving over. I agreed. Only to start crying at the scene where a guy was telling a girl he's got her back after saving her from hoodlums. Lol.

Sometimes, these things don't help as much. But we should never stop trying to find healing.

Give Yourself Time To Heal

When you lose a friend, there are no songs, movies or books to help you. You look around and realize your friend is no longer there. Your entire world feels like it’s crashing down around you, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get through it. I know how it feels, I have been there, and did I survive?

DIARY: Yellow! Water Salt Of Brown Weekend!

When someone asks you "how was your weekend?" and you want to describe your weekend in one sentence without leaving any part of the story behind, what would you say? I got an idea; use colours.

Your response will help you discern those who really care whether your weekend went well and those who just ask for the sake of it. Those who care would ask for more details and those who don't care would either smile or shrug.

For those who care, here is the loong gist of last weekend . . .

Yellow-Water-Salt-Brown Weekend

Yellow! Water Salt of Brown Weekend! appears to me as the best caption for this post. There is so much to tell you, but where/how do I start from? From the moment I left the house on Saturday to the moment I got home, a million events occurred. I might have to break this experience into parts.

Let's start like this:

Why Do You Study The Bible? And Must You?

I'm in that season where God questions my motives and intentions. It's not a very interesting one. I feel every form of art I hold dear is gradually slipping away from me. The "why" questions are breaking me.

Why Study The Bible

When I was studying the book of Joshua, I had no intention to share it with anyone. I innocently wanted to personally understand the concept of discovering the promised land, entering into the promised land, and taking over the promised land.

As I began the study, I was totally dazed at the things I was blessed enough to understand. I was thrilled by the new insight. I became excited and thought I couldn't keep them to myself.

Come To Terms With The Real You

Hi. This is a style post with a little inspirational twist. Does the length of the skirt matter?

The Real You

You can fake it. You can pretend for as long as you want.

You can fake holiness. You can fake piety. You can fake morality. You can fake righteousness. You can fake sister Mary. You can even fake happening babe. Everything  is fakeable.

How To Survive A Friendship Breakup

Maybe you walked away or naturally grew apart, maybe the friendship turned toxic, or maybe a fall-out was involved. No matter the circumstances, a friendship breakup can really take its toll.

It is harrrrrrd.

6 ways To Survive A Breakup

The most stinging part about losing a friendship is that when it happens, it seems you've lost the person you once were.

Even if the breakup was a long time coming, how do we overcome the immense hurt and loneliness of losing that piece of ourselves?

Dear Diary, My Hairstylist Should Be Arrested For This

It's not fun to sit in a chair for hours while a virtual stranger does some things in your face and you leave looking ugly. :(

Issues With Hairdressers

I generally have trust issues with hairstylists, so I am very particular about who I allow to touch my hair.

Don't Forget The Word After A Successful Outcome

The end of a thing is more important than the beginning. Joshua 8 ended beautifully and inspiringly. Still on the PYH Series . . .

Remember The Word Even After Success

Joshua (in chapter 1) had been commanded from the start to meditate on God's word. In Joshua 8, his army had defeated the city of Ai, just as God had predicted. Then came the decision point. Would Joshua celebrate this victory or give glory to God? Here's what we are told,
Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law-the blessings and the curses--just as it is written in the Book of the Law. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read to the whole assembly of Israel, including the women and children, and the aliens who lived among them. - Joshua 8:34-35

STYLE: Lol. It Doesn't Matter Whether It's Vintage Or "Okrika"

I would definitely shop okrika (as we call it) even if I make all the money in the world. Lol. You just never know what you might find in a thrift shop. I like the uniqueness you get with vintage clothing.

Vintage For Work

So I found another lace skirt. Yay.

I don't know when my love for fashion started exactly. For long, my priority when it came to fashion — and existence in general — was to be unique.

I never was satisfied with the "ready-made" clothes my mum got for me while growing up. And I didn't hide my dissatisfaction. She was always complaining about my ingratitude. Poor woman. I am sorry mum. I love you. :D

The Worst Heartbreak Ever

Hello! Yes, it's been a while I wrote about love and relationships. I might have unknowingly clicked a pause to that aspect of my life. It recently dawned on me that anything I try to hide from you hurts me even deeper.

So I'm back to writing on relationships again after going through a roller coaster ride of emotions.

The Heartbreak That Comes From A Lost Friendship

Heartbreak is commonly used after a break up with a boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse, but it is not strictly limited to that. You can feel absolutely heartbroken over a friendship, and to be honest, it is the worst kind.

Dear Diary, Blogging Changes Me

"Why do you blog?" Sometimes I wonder why I’m bothering too. I mean, what’s the point?

Blogging Changes Me

Through the course of my life, I’ve embraced a number of different hobbies: reading, singing, voicing, hosting, modelling, sewing, just to name a few. But none of them have changed my life or brought me as much fulfilment as blogging.

In too many ways to count, blogging has changed me and the way I LIVE life.

You Are More Powerful When You Are Pure

We are still on the PYH Series . . . Joshua 8.

After the sin of Achan was eradicated in Joshua Chapter 7, the Israelites could now take over the land of Ai without a struggle. Aww . . .

Be Obedient

As soon as Archan was stone to death (his sin completely eradicated). The Lord now said to Joshua in the very first verse of Chapter 8:

"Fear not, neither be dismayed: take all the people of war with you, arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of AI, and his people and his city, and his land:"

STYLE: Go From Lazy To Lovely With Monochrome

It’s time to clean up our acts, ladies! What do you understand by "Monochromatic fashion"? When was the first time you heard it? Don't lie! lmho. jk.

Even though monochrome is not a very new style, I get intrigued by it on lazy days.

Going Monochrome With Green

What is a monochromatic fashion? The first time I heard this word, I was like "mono-chromo-what?" Fashion terms have their way of making me sound stupid like "Which one is vintage again?" and like "Oh, I'm a geek-chic?!" Funny terms.

Monochromatic fashion is a mouthful but it explains today's look perfectly.

One Way To Survive Sitting In The Office All Day

I'd choose to work lying down on a couch than sitting at a desk if I had the chance. Sitting at a desk for more than an hour is actually not a good thing. Hope you know?

It's career-Wednesday! Found ONE tip while making a research about my sudden back pain.

Prevent Back Pain At Work

source: g+

I typed "How to reduce back pain" on Google search box and the MAJOR thing that stood out was:

Change your posture at intervals.

So if you work in an office and use a computer most of the time, this tip is especially for you . . .

No matter how comfortable you are in an office chair, prolonged static posture is not good for the back and is a common contributor to back pain and muscle strain.

DIARY: The Fabric, The Model And The Mannequin (Part 2)

I am generally not fascinated by mannequins. Some can be so creepy that they give you nightmares. They will haunt you if you buy the clothes they display. I'm not kidding!

. . . Continued from previous diary entry.

Mannequin Competing With A Model?

I think it's about time stores caught the drift: Customers want to see beautiful mannequins modelling the clothes they're deciding to buy.

Leaders Are Mostly Morning People

Hiya! Praise the Lord! We've already covered 7 chapters out of the 24 chapters in the book of Joshua. Glory! May each Word that we have received bear much more fruits in our hearts in Jesus name. Amen.

Missed any part of the series? CLICK HERE.

Before we move over to the 8th chapter, my mind is drawn to something about Joshua . . .

Joshua Was An Early Riser

You know that moment when you want to turn over to the next page and your eyes catch a word that makes you stop to think? Yes, that was what happened when I was about to turn over to chapter 8.

I saw this:

Joshua 7:16 - So Joshua rose early in the morning . . .

STYLE: When Your Fabric Is Everything

Happy Sunday! How are you? And your weekend? Everything is fine and everyone is good over here. :)

DIARY: A New Rhythm With God

I honestly didn't know I was going to do this. It's a spontaneous post. Since I have defined Rhythm With God on Instagram, I don't think we should have it repeated here. If you're not following yet, please do. 😇

Rhythm With God

It's a beautiful thing when you find your rhythm and get in sync with God's plan for your life.

You Cannot Afford To Be Distracted

In Chapter 7 of the book of Joshua, because of the sin of one Israelite, Israel could no longer stand before their enemies. They grew so weak. Choi.

Stay Focused

Sin is so underrated. If only we knew how much time, power and focus we lose each time we go against God's word.

STYLE: Laced With Love

Hey sweeties! Happy Easter! Yes, we are celebrating God's love. Praying that His love permeates your entire being this season.

Because I'm in love with helping you feel and look your best, I thought to tell you to try lace fabrics. You really should!

Lace Skirt

This skirt was not one of those pieces you see on a rail in a shop, you grab, try on, and instantly love. I had many doubts about it. I almost dropped it. But thank God I didn't!

DIARY: The Fabric, The Model And The Mannequin

Choosing fabric is the most important step in sewing a dress. So I visited an Ankara store because that's my preferred fabric anytime everyday.

On one hand, I visited the store to feed my pretty eyes. And on the other hand, I went with a little hope to find something that fits my preference and matches my pocket.

Ankara Is NOT African?

"Hollandais is from Holland na." The guy at the store said.

That shouldn't have suprised me, because obviously, it is right there in the name - HOLLANDais. But for some only-God-know reason I was shocked.

It felt like I had a sharp pain in my chest. I think my head was spinning too.

Honestly, I Have Been Too Busy For God

Happy New Week! How are you doing? It's time for Bible Study!

Let's not forget that our goal in the PYH series is not merely to increase our knowledge; but to change our lives. One focal point of the Book of Joshua is about winning the battle to inherit the Promised Land.

Submit To God . . . Everything Is A Threat

Two nights before I decided to put this post together, I had a dream. All I can remember about the dream was what a young man said to me after picking me up from . . . I can't remember. I don't know where.

He said, 'Everything is a threat!"

How To Rock A Bodycon Dress Modestly

Many people may not consider the bodycon dress as modest, but it is undeniably a bold statement of self-esteem and body confidence. It all depends on how you wear it according to your body shape and size.

Rocking Bodycon Dresses Modestly

I guess it's wise to not assume everyone knows what a bodycon dress is. Hello brothers! 😉

Here is a simple description:
A bodycon dress is a one-piece figure hugging garment that clings tightly to the body.
The bodycon dress can be a girl's best friend or worst nightmare.

One may be tempted to think this dress is a quick and simple solution to achieving the perfect look, but it can be tricky if you don’t have a body of a supermodel (and really, how many of us do?).

Diary: I Am Too Tired To Write Today

Hi. I am so so sorry for not putting up a post on PYH Series yesterday. Forgive me, please. I had an extremely busy weekend. By Sunday night, honestly, blogging was the last thing on my mind.

So, instead of writing in my diary, my diary was writing to me. Lol.

How To Write When You’re Too Tired

What is the problem?

If you’re telling yourself that you’re too busy to write, then you really have to take a deeper look at what’s really going on in your life.

5 Bible Verses to Start the Week

Happy New week! There is no better way to start the week than to have an awesome time in God's word.

5 Bible Verses to Start the Week

Many times, I feel helpless and out of control. I can only turn to the One who gives me hope for living - God. You might struggle with depression, heartache, relationships, office-work and school-related challenges such as assignment deadlines and exams. Through it all, all you need is a word from God.

These verses are very encouraging. . .

Cool People Wear All Black In The Sun

Happy Sunday! How has your weekend been? Boring or busy? For me, this is the busiest weekend I've had so far this year. Oh my! I can't even find the time to make my hair. It's high time I got another wig! I'll be dashing out straight from the church to another event shortly. Phew. Not complaining though. I'm loving it!

Showing you what-I-wore for yesterday's gig . . .

Wearing Black In The Sun

All my life, I have always heard that black clothes absorb more light and make us feel hotter when we wear them. Is this actually true? Isn't it just one of those sayings without substance?

Protect Yourself Against Office Gossip

Yipee! It's Career-Wednesday. Let's talk about the fact that most times, it is very unlikely to work in a gossip-free environment. People will always talk about people. Always.

So, how do we deal with that?

Dealing With Office Gossip

I am a Christian, so I talk from a Christian perspective. Gossip is a distraction. It is sin.

Dress Worn As Pinafore For A Smart Look

I was born in the Eighties (Lol!), so I guess it shouldn’t really be a surprise that I adore Eighties fashion trends so much. I love styles that scream creativity, femininity, and colour. Anything.

Note To Self: You Are Not Crazy

Do you have those times when you seem to lose your mind and you can’t find it? Or, when you can't believe what your mind is thinking?

Note To Self

"Are you crazy?!"

Crazy is the word to describe this past few days. I have a lot going on in my life . . . work being very busy, creating Ankara accessories, blogging, sewing, voicing, being a woman. Not to mention complicated past relationships and awkward current ones. So yes there are valid reasons to think I'm going crazy.

How To Go To Work Every Morning Feeling Refreshed

Nothing drains the energy more than waking up to do the job you do not like. But you know, there is always a way around everything.

Let's talk about getting our lazy selves up in the mornings. Shall we?

Start Refreshed Everyday

The very day I got inspired to write this article, I had a rough start with a BRT bus ticketer that morning. First, I was mad that he showed up long after the bus had arrived. Second, the ticketer refused to sell me a ticket because he didn't have change. Third, the guy who chose to sit beside me wouldn't stop complaining and grumbling about their poor service and management and how bad the country is.

I got to the office already exhausted. I was drained and cranky even before sitting at my desk.

Dear Diary, Manchester United Has A Special Place In My Heart

I wanted to come here and brag if Manchester United wins the match against Chelsea at FA Cup quarter-final last night, but mehn!

We lose some and win some. Yeah? :(

Let's take this as my diary entry three weeks ago when we (yes, we!) won the EFL Cup Final 2017.

I really do love Man U.

When Manchester United is on the field, you can be sure to find me gushing all about it on Twitter after I abandoned Facebook.

The Memorial Stones In Your Journey To The Promised Land

When life is going well, we are tempted to think that we can pretty much take care of ourselves. We tend to neglect God after getting our blessings, our victory.

The PYH Series: Joshua 4.

The Memorial Stones

The major take for me in Joshua chapter 4 is that God wants us, His people to ALWAYS remember what He has done.

Would You Rather Win The Battle Or Win The War?

Here is a quick post. I am literally writing on the road. My discussions and chats lately have been about winning and losing (football, actually). When I read it again on 'Open Heavens' devotional this morning, I knew it was no coincidence.

Lose The Battle To Win The War

It would be nice to win all the battles and the war but sometimes that just isn’t the way to victory.

Sorry, The Perfect Job Does Not Exist

It's Career-Wednesday! Let's be real with what we face at work. Every rose has its thorn and every job has some associated tasks that you’ll perform with gritted teeth. Even in a dream job, there is some form of frustration. Phew.

There Is No Perfect Job

Things change. Our life circumstances change and as we change in response to them, our needs, priorities and perspective shifts accordingly. A job that appeals to you at 13 may likely not be a good fit for you at 23.

Today Is Much More Important

Hi. Hi. How are you doing? It's Monday! PYH Series gets me excited on Mondays.

This is 3rd chapter (Joshua 3) on the PYH Series. It is a reminder that the past cannot hinder the future.

Prepare For Today

Key Verse:

"And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."

The best security for the future - success, answered prayers, open doors, breakthroughs etc is today's sanctifying.

Today prepares you for the future.
