Why Your "Why" Is Most Important

Today's post is quite personal and delicate. It's one I wrote with trepidation because it can make or mar my business. I hope it doesn't only inspire you to question your self, but also give you the light you need to find answers.

My Most Personal Ethics

As a lifestyle blogger, I often write about various aspects that cut across the way we express ourselves - from how we live life, to how we value our relationships, to how we style our clothes, and to how we run our businesses. It's a wide range of many things, I must say.

Because I'm a big ball of expression: for almost everything I do, say, wear and even eat, there is a deep purpose and certain principles guiding me.

I do not do because I just want to do. No. I do because I have a why.

Personal Basic Ethic

Above all other things, I am a Jesus' girl. And I have boldly declared "I CHOOSE JESUS" on all my social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram etc). I am spiritual, it is WHO I am.

I am not sorry to be spiritual. And never will be.

For me, SPIRITUALITY comes first. Spirituality has a clear and major role in how I express myself, and how I conduct business. It permeates everything I do, and it often guides me as to what not to do. It’s a moral compass.

Spirituality is first and foremost a subjective individual experience. I cannot and will not define it for you. What I can do, is tell you what it means to me.

When I use the word spirituality, I am referring to A CONNECTION TO SOMETHING GREATER THAN MYSELF. Spirituality tells me that there’s more to life than the physical eye can observe, and more than science can explain. It tells me I am more than a beautiful face, a soft voice and an alluring smile.

Spirituality helps me answer some very basic but essential (business-related) questions:

Why do I do what I do?
Why is this important?
What am I (ultimately) trying to achieve?
For what (higher) purpose?
What exactly is the idea behind this expression?
How does this affect those around me, and the world?

I am spiritual. Therefore, my business is spiritual. You can't tell me to take spirituality out of my business. Is that even possible?

Spirituality is linked to INSPIRATION, PASSION and PURPOSE. Spirituality ensures I put my heart and soul into my work. Being genuinely passionate about what I do keeps the momentum and creative juices flowing.

Spirituality is what provides us with a motive -a reason- a mission - that explains and drives why we do what we do. It is about living a life of meaning and purpose.

The point is, the spirit behind what you do has to be in sync with the spirit behind what I do for us to make things work.

"Can two work together except they agree?" Absolutely no!

I needed to write this post because something not-so-good happened (business-related). There was a conflict somewhere and it affected a lot of things. I wouldn't want to go into details because you don't need that information.

So to avoid an unpalatable business experience in the future, I hereby declare my

Most Personal Business Principles

  • I want to be of service, and use my talents to the very best of my ability.
  • I want to treat clients and colleagues with integrity, kindness, and respect.
  • I want to do business in an honest, open, and accountable way.
  • I want to charge rates that are fair, not only for my benefit, but for the benefit of my entire professional community.
  • I want my business to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
  • I am totally committed to keep on learning and growing, and exploring new possibilities.
  • I want to assist and inspire others to do the same.
  • I won’t take on projects that go against my beliefs, e.g. games that glorify gambling or turn horrifying aggression into so-called entertainment.
  • I want to make the world a better place.

Amazingly, I got this guide from the Bible - (from a whole chapter!). There are so many business secrets in the Bible that I have been privileged to discover. But erm.  . . It's not something I'd give out for free. You have to pay consultancy fee, or better still invite me to come speak at your next seminar. :)

I'd really love to do some collaborations and partnerships with you. See my 'Work With Me' page for anything you feel we might be able to do together.

"Not slothful in BUSINESS, fervent in SPIRIT, SERVING the Lord."

Question Your Why

Yes. Yes. Yes. You really have to question your WHY. It is the first step towards achieving  any goal you may have set for your self, business, relationship, weight, and everything.

I'd rather ask "what inspires you" than "what motivates you". You know why? Because we don't need so much to get motivated. People's approval, hearing another's success story and even money can push us to do anything.

However, for something as strong as passion, which means business for me, it is required that I do things in a certain spirit. (If I dare to take away the Spirit, my business will crumble!). That’s where the word inspire comes from. Spiritual people lead inspired lives, and strive to inspire others.

So, ask yourself:
in what spirit do I choose to conduct business?

Why do you do what you do? It's a whole bunch of why's. You just have to know why you do the things you do. . .  Or why you might want to start doing them right now.

I ask a lot of why's on many levels. Here are few:
Find Answers Within

The interesting thing about questioning your WHY is that you find the answers IN you. I mean, you see a better version of you.

Did I tell you I'm a freelance presenter? Yes, I am. And as I question WHY I do these presentations - hosting red carpets, talkshows, booklaunch, etc, I realize I have ONE desire:

To Inspire passion.

I am passionate about passion. Let me in on your passion, and you'd see what magic we can do together.

So sweetie, question your WHY and find your answers within.

My Latest Personal Lesson

Freelancing (or being an entrepreneur for that matter) is not for the faint-hearted. At one point in our professional lives and businesses, we’re all going to be tested.

I'm talking about real test o. We might get horrible feedback. We might be criticized. We might be laughed at. We might start doubting ourselves, or we might feel professionally isolated and alone. And during those times, we have to rely on our WHY.

The why is what keeps you going.

If your answer to the question “WHY DO I DO what I do?” isn’t convincing enough, it will be very EASY to give in, give out and give up.

But if, on the other hand, your inner fire is burning with PURPOSE, you’re poised to get back on track, and stumbling blocks can turn into stepping stones. Challenges become learning experiences and you can bet to always BE ON FIRE!

Stay inspired.

Don't you think there is a spirit behind every business . . . everything you do?
