Happiness is so Underrated

Ahan! Life is not as complicated as we sometimes allow it to be. We need to calm down o! Can you imagine? Someone asked me: "Amaka, how are you?" I answered, with the most beautiful smile ever, "I'm fine." The next thing the person said was, "Aha! You look really happy. What happened? Has he proposed yet?" Mtchwwww!

Biko, what is happiness? Happiness is a state of being happy. Being happy is a positive emotional state of mind. It is a decision to be in that state.

Initially, I didn't want to blog about this. But I have it so laid in my heart to share this light. What does happiness mean to you? Sometimes, we get it all wrapped up in our heads that we think the new phone, shoes, bags, relationship or job is enough to make us happy. No. No. No.

The happiness that is based on a particular possession cannot last. It's not a bad thing to be happy when you get a new pair of shoes sha (Yea, I love shoes that much. Lol), but such happiness will only stay for a moment. How many would I get just to remain happy? Material things cannot sustain happiness.

We stuggle to find happiness in our lives because we think it is far away. This is why it is so underrated. The point is, happiness is an emotion. Where do emotions exist? Of course, it is in our minds! All we need to do is to let it out. We are happy, if only we knew.

I believe happiness is also an experience. A spiritual experience, actually. It is an experience of grace, gratitude and love. When you have the presence God in you, you are filled with happiness. :)

So when that person asked me that annoying question, I was like *In waffi accent* So person no fit happy again because say person broke, or say person never marry, or say person never get job, or say person dream never gree show? Abegy!

I'm happy, simply because I choose to be happy :)

GREAT POST! Our happiness has nothing to do with our possessions, our environment, or even our health for that matter. Our happiness comes from a source that is independent of all those influences. Genuine happiness is a state of contentment - a peace of mind - a sense of well being regardless of outward circumstances going on in your life. The main ingredient to anyone's happiness is contentment.

Some people are born saddists. Nothing makes them happy. How do we help these ones?

Hhahahahhaha... A person is happy not because he has no problems in life, but because he knows being happy is more important. If these ones understand that happiness is the only way, then they can be happy

It's not easy to be happy with all the bombings and killings in this world. You can be called a witch for being happy when some people are sad. I'd rather not show my happiness to be safe.

Your blog is really cool. Kudos!

I thnk u need to ask urself why u found that question annoying. A yes or a no cud hv bin appropraite. lol. Thinking about this "happy" thingy, people need to understand where their hapiness comes form. We derive happiness from different sources.

Lol. I like your waffi accent. "Happiness is underrated" - beautiful title for a beautiful post written by a beautiful lady.

I concur with you. It is better to be sad than happy in Nigeria.

Hmmm. . .that's deep. Steve Kloves said, "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to remembers to turn on the light." We shouldn't switch over because we want to blend in, the world needs us to shine the light of hope. To shine means to showcase. You just gotta show it anyway!

As funny as this question may sound, it points out a very serious issue. Some people feel they were not born to be happy, it's like a force over them. Nothing seems to make them happy.
I'd suggest that they aggressively feed their minds with positive thoughts, spend more time with family and friends and count the blessings around them.
Plus, I like Kwame's answer. That's the best solution ever.

Exactly. Thanks, Chibyke. :)

Well, Joy is a fruit of the Spirit while happiness is a state of mind. Joy is an outburst of happiness. God gives you joy, but you create happiness.

hahaha... Did u say it's better to be sad? lol. I think u mean it's better when u don't smile too often like our dear Amaka here. In Nigeria, when u frown, u'll be respected. lol

Really? awww! *touches nose* Thank you!

Amakamedia said...

Lol. I don't think one can be happy without smiling o

Badmus said...

It is very possible. I put up a straight most times.

Mehn, I can't hide my feelings. When I'm happy, I smile. When I'm sad, hmmm... I can either put up a straight face or cry. A genuine smile comes from being happy, positive, and from drawing your feelings from the heart. I like this quote: "Use your smile to change the world, don't let the world change your smile" :)

Smiling is overrated. lmfao!
