What Do You Do For a Living?

We got talking. . .went on and on. . . then got to this point. . .
Somebody: so, what do you do for a living?
Me:  hmm. . . *smiles* I shine.
Somebody: *confused* huh?
Me: *laughs* Yes, As a light that I am. I shine out with Heart Rays.
Somebody: Really? *eyes popping* How do you mean?  Tell me more!
Me: *grins* With all pleasure. This post is for you.

It's funny how funny I usually find this question difficult. Every time as far as I can remember, it takes me more than ten seconds to provide an answer. Or perhaps I'd have to spell A-M-A-K-A-M-E-D-I-A.

Now, "where do you work?" is a very easy question. I can say the name, objectives and location of the company within ten seconds in a breathe. Hitting the nail twice on the head. I find it so very simple.

But "what-do-you-do-for-a-living?" gives me the shivers. I wouldn't know where or how to start. I find it kind of complicated. Am I weird? No. I enjoy unravelling.

Then, I start to think deeply into the question.

So here's how I break down the question in my head before giving that answer. Now you are right in my head. . .
WHAT
"What" describes something. It gives information about a person, a product, an idea or a thing. You should tell, show and explain. What is your best decription? What comes to mind when your name is mentioned? What's the description of your personality? Got any personal identity?

YOU
This is about you here. Your uniqueness. Your selling point. What it so special about you? What do you do differently?

DO
"Do" denotes action. To do is to produce results. To show forth good works. What are the fruits of your labour?
The Bible says, by their friuts, you shall know them. What exactly do you do that blesses others? What has others said about the work of your hands?

FOR

For whom do you what you do? At the end of the day, what is the point?
The Bible says all things should be done unto the glory of God.

LIVING
Life has got no meaning without purpose. Living has no meaning without a vision. Vision gives birth to a mission statement. Do you have a mission for living? Do you just live? There should be a driving force for your life.

What is that thing you do that makes you feel alive? That is what you do for a living.

You are the light of the world. It is when you show out the light inside of you that you really live. What does a light do? It shines.

For some, they worship for a living. It is when they lead others to worship that they really live. For others, they pray for a living. They interceed for the church and the nation.

What you do for a living is the statement your life makes.

So "where do you work?" isn't the same as "what do you do for a living?" You are more than where you work. Your job is not your life.

Then I go,

This is what I do for a living. . . #iShine.

Thanks for asking.

Hey, are you still in my head? You can leave now. *sighs* Thank you.

Now your turn: what's your response to "what do you do for a living?"
