6 Unusual Life Lessons From Last Year

Happy happy New Year, sweethearts of my blogosphere! Woohooo! 2021 was a uniquely transformative year for my life. And as you already know how I do, I track the changes

Life Lessons From 2021

At the end of every year, I sit down and reflect on what I learned. There is no specific aim or purpose to the exercise—the goal is to put on wings, fly up to 10,000 feet, and assess myself and the year that has passed.

2021 was a uniquely transformative year in my life. The year I evolved into a MOTHER. What! It was a year! I was in a haze for the most part of the year but I will do my best to bring my lessons into light for you.

January: Get On With God Before Anything Else

Like I said in the beginning of the year, I took a part-time break off social media to sip all the juice and bask in all the goodness of the season that God had brought me into. I had a great time fellowshipping with God everyday before getting to my phone/checking messages or peeping into social media.

One day I did a quick run to social media after fellowship and BOOM! I went viral. Lol. Some people said it was a negative splash but that’s not how I saw see it. WATCH FULL STORY HERE.

Start your day with God!

February-May: Worry Changes Nothing

I keep talking about how dealing with anxiety during pregnancy was a struggle and if you'd like to know more, I happily shared my first trimester recap here. I definitely think it's worth adding something about how no matter how stressed, anxious, afraid or angry you are, it changes nothing. That’s the truth.

What do you do? PRAY. PRAY. And PRAY some more.

Remember how He taught us to pray? “Give us this day our daily bread.” Worry doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrows; it empties today of its strength. Live one day at a time. Make it a day changer! God’s Word says: “He will take care of everything you need!”

Choose to make every day a great day!

June - July: Stay Grateful

Can’t say anything more. Just stay grateful. That’s all.

Aug-Sep: Handle Family Issues With Wisdom

Spending large amounts of time with anyone means riding the roller coaster of their mood along with your own. My mother-in-law became a walking amusement park (much more than a roller coaster ride) when she visited us for her omugwo duties. Oh my!

At a certain point, I just couldn’t take being hurt over and over. I felt a very strong and real need to keep all forms negativity and hostility away from my baby – to protect her and myself because I needed to heal and be strong for her. These behaviours were the opposite of how I’d normally handle things but I’m thankful we sailed through that phase victoriously.

Kachi was really sweet and either stops to give me a hug, defend me when necessary, run an errand, or do whatever he can to try to make me feel a little better. You can learn who people truly are through the way they handle stress or exercise their freedom. As a couple, we were not be afraid to communicate our feelings and pray TOGETHER when the enemy try to get the best of us.

Oct-Nov: Stop Living For Yourself

The day you become a mother will be one of those memories that polaroid themselves into your mind FOREVER. The way the heart just grows beyond explanation and how mother’s intuition just kicks in all on its own. It is the exact moment that you stop living for yourself and start living for another soul.

Motherhood has taught me to put others first before me. Actually, no I wasn’t taught. It’s still a shocker seeing the woman I have become.

It’s been like a personal tradition since 2017 to document an entry each day in the month of November. Sweetie, I couldn’t even get through the first week this year! It was all about my baby (or babies if you add Kachi. Aha!)

December: Seek Knowledge

Just when I thought the year was over, I got enrolled into the School of Joshua. It’s been a life-changing experience. I have snapped out of the haze and am now walking in the light. Thank You Sweet Jesus. Expect more from me this year. Heaven has placed a demand on my life. It’s nothing like the usual. Nothing!

People often say that having a baby changes you, guess what? It’s true. Your priorities will shift. You will find yourself changing your mind about things that you thought you’d never ever waver on. Motherhood tend to put things in perspective.

I’ve been changed F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Cheers to 2022!
It’s a year of Immeasurable Grace!
It’s a year of Divine Pathways!
It’s the year of the LORD!

What’s your WORD for 2021? What are you doing differently this year?
