STYLE: Intentional Layering (Ankara With Isi Agu Print)

I’ve drafted this post seven times and I am not even joking. I don’t know what angle to come from because my thoughts are not exactly coherent at the moment. Style? Marriage? Family? Layering? Parenting? It’s everything. Actually, it is about everything that I have come to realize in this 7 years of being married to the love of my life.

Yes, on this day seven years ago, I handed wine to my husband and became traditionally married!

The Art of Intentional Layering

Intentional Layering: Ankara x Isi Agu Style

Not to sound cheesy but I am so thankful and blessed to be married to Kachi. I’ve heard a lot about the “7 year itch” and how it’s the year where most marriages are tested. I TOTALLY get why. By year 7, most couples probably have two children. And two children really does change a marriage in a way that one child doesn’t.

However, for me, I can truly say I’m more in love with my husband now than I was when I gave him the wine to drink in my father’s village compound seven years ago and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring for us!

We definitely cannot celebrate our marriage without celebrating the three magnificent blessings entrusted to us that bind our love even more: Our children. When I look at them, my heart feels so full. I am simply overwhelmed with the thought that my husband and I are given gifts of this magnitude. Two beautiful girls and a lovable boy. Two sweet girls and a special boy. Three wonderful souls to protect and love.

Perhaps this post is to remind us as parents that it is good for our children to be a part of the celebration because they are a part of us! And we are influencing their perceptions of love and marriage every single day.

Having said all that, can I now show you what we wore to church as a family today? It’s Ankara with Isi Agu Print!

I’m wearing a short black dress on a straight long Ankara skirt. See that? Layering. Marriage can be just like layering. It takes two individual pieces and makes them look like one beautiful cohesive outfit. Marriage blends two unique individuals into one unified expression. MACH…Hmm!

Layering isn’t just “putting two pieces together.” It takes intentionality and creativity. It’s about proportion. Volume vs slim • Bold vs simple • Long vs short • Pattern vs plain •

Contrasts create beauty when layered intentionally.

Seven years in, I can honestly say marriage is an art. It’s messy at times and beautiful at others, but should always layered with love, patience, grace, and joy. Having Kachi by my side and our three wonderful children alongside us, it’s a life I wouldn’t trade for anything. I love how we are creatively living.

Seven years in, I can say that our children have added depth and colour to our marriage. The more committed we are to parenting together, the more intimate we become. The inside jokes. The secret smiles when the kids say something funny. The sacred moments we share. I love those times. I love when we DO have a chance to just be together. I love when we go swimming together. I love planning our future together. I am so SO blessed to have THIS.

I am still so in love with you, Kachi.
Happy Tradiversary to us!
Cheers to more!
