STORY: I Met Jerry (8)

Jerry's line has been off all morning. I was worried-sick. "what is happening??"

Each time my phone rang, I had just one person on my mind. Just one.

I had received quite a number of calls that morning. But none of them was Jerry's.  I was disappointed when each voice I heard was not his.

For the umpteenth time, I dialed his number again. Still, I couldn't get through to him.

I was neither angry nor sad. In fact, I was more afraid than worried. I kept talking to myself.

"What is happening?"
"Well, maybe he is very busy and does not want to be disturbed."
"Oh, am I now a distraction?"
"Wait. He must have misplaced his phones. Who knows?"
"What if he's not feeling well?"
"Oh God please can I just know he is ok?"
"I miss him. I miss him. I miss him"
"I know I can be very annoying sometimes. Maybe he is even angry with me."
"Has he stopped loving me?"
"Jerry, please call me. . . now. . . please!"

Five minutes gone. . .twenty minutes gone. . .an hour gone. . .three hours gone. . .Jerry hasn't called me yet.

"I'm here missing him. Is he even missing me?" I hissed as I muttered to myself. I was falling sick. Then I agreed to stop trying to reach him. I made up my mind not to pick up his calls if he eventually calls.

But how long can I hold? I cannot deceive myself. I love Jerry too much not worry about him. I love Jerry too much not to care about his lines being switched off. I love Jerry too much not to hear his voice right now.

Again I dialed his number. Phew! How I hated that lady who kept saying, "sorry, the number you have dialed is switched off."

She is so evil. If I catch her. . .
